Sandomierz is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, picturesquely located on a Vistula River escarpment, marking the steep end of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The Old Polish royal fortress reflects our nation's history and culture. Sandomierz boasts numerous architectural gems: the oldest and most prized Dominican Monastery Complex with St. James Church, from the early 13th century; the Cathedral Basilica of the 14th century with rich frescoes and polychrome art; the Renaissance Town Hall, one of Poland’s most beautiful; and the Royal Castle – former home of Polish kings and princes. Visiting Sandomierz, don’t miss climbing the Gothic Opatowska Gate, long a city symbol. From there, admire Sandomierz’s panorama and the Vistula’s stunning blue curve embracing the fortress walls.

Besides its historical appeal, the city located on the Vistula River on seven hills offers natural attractions. Between these hills, picturesque loess ravines invite for longer and shorter walks. Inside the city limits is the "Pepper Mountains" nature reserve, the eastern end of the Holy Cross Mountains and a geological-natural reserve. A perfect family spot is the renovated "Piszczele Park." It features walking and cycling paths, a skate park, and the park’s main attraction – the "Tarzan Trail", a rope park.

An important new attraction in Sandomierz is the Marshal Józef Piłsudski Vistula Boulevard, featuring a modern marina, the Water Sports Information and Recreation Center, and a well-equipped playground. Along the Vistula’s edge runs a wonderful promenade, a perfect place for walks for residents of this millennium-old town and visiting tourists.
